Wayne Gretzky Returning to the Edmonton Oilers!

Oct. 12, 2016

Wayne Gretzky is a member of the Edmonton Oilers, again!

The Great One will be announced as partner and vice-chairman of Oilers Entertainment Group Wednesday in Edmonton.

The Oilers are also unveiling their iconic Gretzky statue outside of their new arena, Rogers Place.

The bronze statue of Number 99 hoisting the Stanley Cup stood outside Rexall Place for almost three decades. It was built in 1989, following the trade that sent Gretzky south to the Los Angeles Kings.

The statue was removed from its longtime spot by the old rink’s box office back in August in order to do some small repairs before the big reveal in its new location.

Gretzky, 55, is also serving as the NHL's official ambassador for the centennial season.

The Oilers open the 2016-17 season and their new rink Wednesday night against the Calgary Flames.
