(Initiation)

Ages 5&6

NEW TO INITIATION?

Here is what you can expect your first time on the ice:

  • You can expect to hear about your players start date and ice times the second week of September. The ice schedule will change after the first week and once more after evaluations are completed and teams are finalized.
  • If your player can not yet skate he/she will be required to come to practice with a parent/adult who can help them on the ice. It is mandatory for the parent/adult helper to wear a helmet and skates on the ice. Once your player can successfully get up from the ice and skate without assistance then you may remove yourself from being on the ice at practices.
  • The first few practices are typically to help coaches get to know the players and start assessing skill levels.
  • Teams are not picked for sometimes upwards of 2 months into the season until coaches can confidently determine skill levels.
  • Jamborees/games are now permitted after November 1, 2019.
  • All parents/coaches/volunteers that will be on the ice are required to have a Criminal Record Check. You can download and print the CRC Request Letter and take it to the local RCMP detachment for completion.
  • All Parents require Respect In Sport (RIS) PRIOR to the September start date.  This course is online and is NOT reimbursed by the association.
  • All Coaches - require Respect In Sport (RIS) Coach as soon as possible.  This course is online and IS reimbursed by the association upon receipt.
  • All head coaches (this is roughly 1 per 10 player ratio) need to complete MANDATORY courses through Hockey Alberta prior to Nov 15.  These courses are online and in class.  All coaching clinics are reimbursed by the association with a receipt.  Please make sure that you sign up soon, as local courses fill up fast.
